How did I start writing?
Damn! When I think back to when I had four euros left in my pocket and used them to buy a notebook and a pen, it makes me laugh today. Imagine having your life, your routine, your hassles, and your joys. Imagine yourself in one of those moments when you can't get any lower than that. But... that day something inside me whispered: "Hey! You empty-headed guy! Try writing."
Something changed. It was one of those feelings that come from within, as I think often happens to everyone: I start studying, I start going to the gym, etc. etc. Mine was: try writing.
It all happened within minutes. At first, I didn't listen to that feeling, but yes! Damn! After ten minutes, I got up and went to one of those Chinese shops to buy what I strongly felt I needed to buy. And I promise: I only had four euros in my pocket! If I'd had five euros and fifty... do you know what I would have bought instead of paper and pen?
The damn cigarettes.
If I had had an extra euro and fifty cents in my pocket, I certainly wouldn't have listened to my soul.
Caracal Editions: My Journey
Well, that's what I was. But let's get back to us... I present to you my Edizioni Caracal project: a five-year journey, and only now am I starting to see the first rewards. Not necessarily financial: it's an investment of thousands of euros, but I'm not aiming for the present; what I'm aiming for is the future. Yep... damned future, because one day it will come, and if we're not ready, well... you get the idea.
Who am I?
Who am I? Nobody. I'm a boy, just any boy out there, a boy who's becoming a man. I was born in Romania and lived in a country house full of animals until I was seven, somewhere on the border between Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. Then I moved to Italy with my parents and grew up mostly on the French Riviera: Sanremo, Monte Carlo, Nice—you know? That's where I was.
But at eighteen I left home: Geneva, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Forte dei Marmi, Cavallo Island, Lake Garda, Corsica, etc. etc.
Nice places, right? Yeah! And I worked in fancy places! You know those fancy places? Those five-star hotels?
This job as a bartender has allowed me to travel, meet people, and talk to them. Now that I think about it... Once, Hollywood stars came to the hotel in the Dolomites: Danny DeVito, Andy MacDowell, and others. They stayed for a month!
Damn... I'm lost again... Damn the past too, not just the future: damn the past and damn the future.
